The Grind, opened on Aug. 1, 2003, and started with one employee and a couple of volunteers. It now has eight employees, all students who work part time. The Grind offers a variety of products from coffee and tea to smoothies and pastries.

The Grind offers a coffee guarantee - if you don't like it, bring it back and we will make you another one.

"Coffee is an art" says the owner Jonathan Holiman, "And each customer likes theirs specific. We really work hard on getting each person's drink specific."

All of Jonathans products are imported from places like Peru, Brazil and El Salvador, straight from the farmers which helps them build a better life. The beans are from the PORTLAND ROASTING COMPANY, who roast the beans from the farmers and ships it to customers within 48 hours. The beans are environmentally friendly and of good quality.

Jonathan says the reason The Grind has become so popular is because it is more than just a coffee house. We do catering for meetings, conferences, and some community members like to meet business clientele at the coffee house as well. The Grind offers tea from THE REPUBLIC of TEA and smoothies, which helps build a clientele and bigger market base.

OUR COFFEE

THE PORTLAND ROASTING COMPANY is a micro roaster of specialty coffees. Located in Portland OR. since 1996. They have been roasting top grade arabica coffee and espresso. As Artisan roasters, they combine traditional roasting methods with modern techniques.

 

 

 

 

We purchase whole beans one a week. This keeps our coffee beans as fresh as possible. We then grind per order. Part of the problem of bad tasting coffee is stale coffee grounds. Part of our great coffee taste is fresh roasted beans as well as a perfect grind.

OUR TEA

We proudly serve Republic of Tea. Most of our teas are loose leaf tea thereby enhancing the taste and freshness of each cup. We have a huge variety of teas including Black, green, red, white, herbal and Matte.
